Greetings

On behalf of the California Taekwondo Foundation (C.T.F.), I am delighted to extend a very warm welcome to all of you that will be attending the 2nd SF Korean Consul General Cup Taekwondo Championship! This championship would not be possible without you and I sincerely appreciate your support. Our main goal is to provide an opportunity for your students to gain invaluable experience and to further develop their skills and abilities.  Although Taekwondo is an Olympic Sport, we feel that it is important to preserve the foundation and traditions of Taekwondo.  This championship will be a gathering place where martial art and sport can blend harmoniously together.  I wish all of you the very best experience and success at the championship and look forward to seeing you on September 29, 2019!

Sincerely,

It is my great pleasure to welcome all of you attending the 2nd SF Korean Consul General Cup Taekwondo Championship! I wish to extend my warmest welcome to all the participating athletes and officials.

I especially would like to thank the organizers of the California Taekwondo Foundation including President Pyoung-Hoe Koo, for all their dedicated efforts in preparing for this Championship.

Taekwondo has thrived into an international sport boasting 70 million practitioners in 200 countries and regions worldwide. It was first adopted as an official sporting game back at the 2000 Sydney Olympic Games.

As a traditional Korean Martial Art, Taekwondo emphasizes physical training as well as mental exercise and spiritual discipline. Taekwondo encourages its global practitioners to learn such core values as courtesy, perseverance and self-control as well as to nurture the spirits of caring and respect for other peoples, cultures, and customs.

I am pleased to note that a growing number of Americans, not to mention Californians, are becoming more and more enthusiastic about  practicing Taekwondo. I think the enthusiasm for Taekwondo that flourished in the U.S. in the 1970s sowed the seeds for the success of the ‘Korean Wave’ or ‘Hallyu’, which enjoys great popularity all across the world in various forms such as K-pop, K-food, K-fashion, and K-drama. It is my desire that Taekwondo will continue to play a vital role in further enhancing the understanding and recognition of Korea and its culture.

I hope that all the participating athletes will have a chance to demonstrate their skills earned through hard practices with true sportsmanship. I also hope that all of the participants will be able to build genuine friendship and partnership which can contribute toward further strengthening of already existing friendly and cooperative relations between the Republic of Korea and the United States of America.

I wish you the best of luck!
